We Are Alive

This statement may get some of us thinking or it may have us a little confused. We are alive or we wouldn’t be reading this right now, right?!

I remember as a teenager, struggling and lonely. I have shared that my hearing loss came with social struggles and the more you are rejected, the more you want to belong and be accepted by those around you. The harder you try to be accepted the more rejected you feel when you aren’t accepted or liked.

I began to walk away from God and started looking for love and acceptance in places I was never meant to look. I blamed God for making me the way He did, someone who was broken and unloveable. I had thrown myself away just like others had tossed me aside.

One day I realized how empty I was inside. I really did not care if I lived or died some days.

I was dead inside.

And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold. Matthew 24:12

According to Merriam Webster, one definition of the word dead is growing cold.

In both of these examples, lawlessness and sin had entered into these lives. Mine and those the bible talks about here in this scripture.

For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you. Romans 6:8-11

For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. 1 Corinthians 15:22

Many of us have found ourselves feeling this way. It is easy to set our minds on those things that are hard, unknown, scary, and those things that feel impossible. Our thoughts begin a downward spiral, and we find ourselves in a place of anxiousness, fearfulness, depression, and hopelessness.

This is exactly where the enemy wants us.

I shared this moment in my testimony. One day I literally saw myself in a deep dark pit with walls thick and high. I was stuck, and I had no way out. I looked up, and there was Jesus reaching His hand down to me offering me help to get out.

I reached back out to Jesus and He pulled me out. The moment He touched me, my heart began to come alive.

This has been a journey. Again, it is another area where I have heard the scriptures about being alive in Christ. I knew that Jesus died for me and was resurrected and that His death was my death, and His life was my life.

But what does this mean to live like we believe we are alive in Christ?

I came to Jesus that day as a caterpillar and it has been a journey of continuing to grab His hand and go with Him as He transforms me into that beautiful butterfly.

Each time God shows me some sin within me and I repent, I live more alive in Him.

Each time I bring my hurt and struggle to God, He reveals the root and helps me pull it out, I live more alive.

Each time I resist the devil so he flees, I live more alive.

I am thirty years older today than when I was in the story I shared with you and I am more alive today than I was then. The closer I get to going home to Jesus, the more alive I live.

The enemy wants to steal the life Jesus died to give us. He wants us stuck here on earth so people can’t see the truth that Jesus has brought us from death to life.

I am here today to remind you that if you have received Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior you ARE alive in Him! If you haven’t received Jesus as your Lord and Savior you can be alive in Him today!

We aren’t created to just be alive in heaven when we get there, we are created to live ALIVE here on earth abundantly!

Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace. Romans 6:12-13

Let us encourage one another today. Remind someone who needs to be reminded that they are alive in Christ. We don’t have to let the enemy win. We don’t have to bear our burdens alone and we can share our struggles. As we allow God to work in our hearts and let others walk with us in this life, we can live ALIVE so that others will see we have a life-giving Savior!
