Looking Back to Move Forward

Sitting in my chair, speaking into the microphone during a recent podcast interview, I found myself overwhelmed by something unexpected—gratitude. As I answered the questions, memories began to surface, and I could see it more clearly than ever: God had been with me all along, from the very beginning.
My mind drifted back to where it all started, an eight-year-old girl, watching and observing all around her, desperately wanting to know the right answer to this simple, honest question.
“Who are you, God? Show me.”
I didn’t realize then how faithfully He would answer.
Do you find yourself looking around and observing what is going on? Do you hear what people are saying, and see how they are living, and find yourself asking God,
“Who are you, really?”
This world can be a contradictory place; the church can be even more contradictory if we are honest. We don’t want to say this truth out loud, but it’s time we did. Not in a condemning or shameful way, but in a truthful way, the way God reveals our sin and shortcomings to us. We need to say it in a way that sparks healthy, honest conversation among us and moves us forward together in unity so this world may know who Jesus really is.
I don’t believe we, as the whole body of Christ—not one particular church or denomination or anything like that, but us as a whole body of Christ—have shown this world who Jesus really is. Instead, we leave people in that same place I was as an eight-year-old girl who asked God outright,
“Who are you?”
I want to have these conversations. I don’t want to be afraid of having them.
Do you have a memory of when you felt that way, questioning, searching, wondering? I would love for you to share those experiences with us.
Are you in a place where you are looking all around you, inside the church and outside, and asking
God, “Who are you?”
and even,
“Where are you if you are real?”
I’ll continue sharing my journey. We’ll dig into Scripture. We’ll explore who God really is—together. Next week, I’ll be sharing our first YouTube video on this topic, and I would love for you to join the conversation there as well.
Share what you feel comfortable sharing—your experiences, your questions, and your thoughts.
Let’s walk this out together. Let’s talk it through.
You don’t have to figure it out alone. 🤍

Such a great and honest post, Des! I am convicted that we need to be honest about our questions and bring them to the surface in order to get to know Christ better. Praying for you as your ministry continues…..🙏🏼
