In The Beginning

God has grabbed my hand and brought me back to a time where nothing and no one existed.  To a place where God spoke the world into being and breathed life into the first man. As my eyes follow the words on the pages of the Bible, I am in awe all over again at the God I continue to get to know and love more as each day passes. Take a walk with me.

God has taken this dark, dry void and spoken life into it. He has created darkness and light, day and night. He has created the Heavens, the sky, and water He has created earth and everything in it. Plants, vegetation, and fruit trees. The animals that live in the water and on land, along with the birds in the sky.

I wish I could have been there to watch this happen. Not because I need to see it to believe it, but what an incredible scene that must have been.

“Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” Genesis 1:26

Here we see God’s intentions as He prepares to create man. He would be made in the Image of God and in His likeness and be given an incredible amount of authority. He would be putting him in charge of all He had created. Almost like His manager. We are made in the image of God and His likeness. He has given us authority in our homes, our jobs, and most importantly the church.

“Now no shrub of the field was yet in the earth, and no plant of the field had yet sprouted, for the Lord God had not sent rain upon the earth, and there was no man to cultivate the ground.” Genesis 2:5

In this passage, we see that part of God’s purpose for man was to cultivate the ground. He created man with a purpose and a job to do. God has created us with purpose and we have a job to do in His Kingdom. Click To Tweet

I had always thought that God created Adam in the Garden of Eden but I learned I was wrong in thinking that. This is a great example of why we need to continue to study those places we feel are familiar, We can believe things that may not be true becuase we missed something in the text so I encourage you to keep exploring God’s Word, both the familiar and the unfamiliar places and passages.

“The Lord God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. The Lord God planted a garden toward the east, In Eden; and there He placed the man He had formed.” Genesis 2:7-8

God formed Adam’s body out of the dust but his body did not have life until God breathed life into Him. The Spirit gives life. This is why at the end of our life when our spirit leaves, the life in us is gone. Then we go back to dust, where Adam’s body was first formed.

What an incredible picture here! God has provided everything for Adam. He has provided him a paradise to live in, a purpose and a job in taking care of the land, the authority over the creation, and a constant, unhindered interaction with God Himself.

Think about God's provision in your life, whatever that looks like. He provides in big ways and in small ways daily. Click To Tweet Think about the gift we have in Jesus, who God has given to provide a way to have constant, unhindered interaction with Him. God has breathed life into us and given us His Holy Spirit. May we ponder these things in our heart today! Click To Tweet
